By torchlight along avenues inked black by power failures, locals make their way to evening appointments. A crossroads is dimly illuminated by emergency flares, flickering weakly and in need of constant replacement. There are sirens in the distance. As one fades, another begins.
This is New York in October 2012. The grip of a presidential campaign put on hold as a hurricane passes through. The character and people of the city (the original subject of this photo series) subdued but resilient. Once aglow with activity, now trying to reignite.
